Providing Truly Affordable Housing for Local People

Welcome to the website of the

Stow Community Land Trust

We are pleased to welcome you to our website and to introduce you to the Stow Community Land Trust - who we are, our principal objective, our aims, and to explain how you can help us to provide Truly Affordable Housing (TAH) to meet the specific needs of our local community.

(Clicking on any underlined text on this website will take you the relevant page or another website, as appropriate.)

As you know, Stow-on-the-Wold is a renowned historic town in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. However, the sustainability of our town is affected by a serious lack of truly affordable housing that is accessible to local people in Stow on low to moderate incomes.

In 2016, our Chairman Peter Minty and the then Mayor, Ben Eddolls, resolved to take action to overcome this problem.  They and other like-minded townspeople formed the Stow Community Land Trust (Stow CLT), which is a member of the National Community Land Trust Network.

Stow CLT’s principal objective, therefore, is to tackle the need for TAH head-on, prioritising local people, key workers and the rural skills sector to safeguard the future social and economic well-being of Stow.

A copy of our brochure can be found here.

Stow Town Council Grant

Ever since the CLT was created some 7 years ago, Stow Town Council has been a keen supporter.  This year they have kindly given us a grant of £1,500, which will help with both our day-to-day running costs and also enable us to embark on a publicity and fund-raising drive in order to cover our legal costs in acquiring our first piece of land and to obtain planning permission.  We are extremely grateful to the Council for this donation.

August 2023

We are pleased to announce that Dr Nigel Moor FRTPI, has agreed to be the Chairman of Stow CLT. A former Gloucestershire County Councillor, he brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the organisation. Also co-opted are local businessman Greg Forster, and Kimberley Girvan who both have extensive marketing experience. Simon Clarke, a Stow Town Councillor has joined the Board as the Town Council representative.
